A agricultural community dedicated to supporting and promoting the prosperity of sugar cane farming.
March 2026
Dear Members,
We have navigated a challenging year with resilience and determination. The decline in the RV price, coupled with the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Tongaat Huletts situation, has impacted everyone connected to the sugar industry.
Grocane remains committed to exploring and implementing all appropriate risk management strategies to mitigate exposure and ensure the long-term sustainability of our Co-Op.
As we approach the new season, we strongly urge you to take the following actions:
- Inspect all fire-fighting equipment and refurbish or replace where necessary
- Clear and properly maintain encroaching firebreaks
- Widen firebreaks in high-risk areas
- Remain vigilant throughout the season
- Importantly, Notify Grocane of any changes to cane supply arrangements
Please also remember that membership in your regional Fire Protection Association is mandatory. All members are required to remain fully compliant with the Veld and Forest Fire Act.
Let us continue working together to safeguard our farms, protect our communities, and secure the sustainability of our industry.
